The Reality Of Wind Power

We hear the praises of renewable energy such as wind and solar power generation, but the public is not being told the whole story. The very unpredictable nature of the wind forces the utilities to back up wind generation with a like amount of conventional generation. Utility companies are being forced into the “green power” game and find themselves having to build twice the power generation capability than they would otherwise need. This, of course, applies to solar generation as well. Eric Lowe describes how Oregon electricity users will ultimately pay more for the privilege of using wind power.
